By "traditional counseling," we are referring to office-based, talk therapy. You know, like you see on TV, where you sit in an office and talk to a therapist. So our traditional counseling is what one normally thinks of as "therapy." This is in contrast to our Equine Assisted Counseling, which is outside in a pasture or arena with the horses, and is experiential-based therapy.
Therapy is offered by either Dr. Darrell G. Yardley, LPC, or Patricia P. Henry, LPC-I. And, depending on the client(s) and situation, sometimes a team approach is used, where both therapists are present. Our experience and training include working with a variety of psychological issues, using a variety of therapeutic approaches, for a wide age range of clients.
Psychological Issues
Areas of clinical expertise, training, and experience include, but are not limited to:
Anxiety, depression, stress, post-traumatic stress, phobias, sexual abuse, sexual assault victims, attention deficit/hyperactivity (ADHD), oppositional disorder, attachment disorder, dissociative identity disorder, adjustment disorders, substance abuse and addiction, life transition issues, seniors (age 50+) issues, spiritual issues, divorce.
In the area of adult sexuality: sexual addiction, including pornography; sexual desire; sexual arousal, orgasmic issues; sexual pain; erectile dysfunction; and gender identity disorder.
Therapeutic approaches...
A variety of therapeutic approaches are used, individualized for the client and their situation. These are variously drawn from cognitive behavioral, Gestalt, reality, positive psychology, Jungian, and others. Techniques are drawn form the above, along with insight, hypnotherapy, and mindfulness.
Our treatment population includes ages 10 to 100. As life experiences would have it, we are not only parents ourselves, Dr. Y with adult children and grandchildren, ages 5-18; Ms Henry, with her own 11 year old. We have extensive experience with teens and tweens and up. As a senior himself, Dr Y is familiar with issues for seniors, and the transitions they must navigate in their later years. In this regard, life coaching may be more helpful than therapy.
